the New York Metro area. After training with Jenny West, Yael was certified as a HypnoBirthing Labor Companion and has taken the DONA labor companion workshop with Natashia Fuksman as well. Yael has been honored to attend dozens of births, HypnoBirthing and otherwise. In the fall of 2009, Yael attended the annual HypnoBirthing Conclave in sunny South Florida, and became certified as both an Infant Massage Instructor and a Fertility Hypnosis Specialist. She previously enjoyed a 20 year career in Medical Imaging, after serving in the US Army as an X-ray Specialist during the first Desert Storm. Yael lives in the Boro Park section of Brooklyn with her amazingly supportive husband and five young children.
Leslie Newman is a Certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner who trained with Sarojini Alva in Virginia and mentored with Yael Quittner in Brooklyn. She is a Certified HypnoBirthing Professional Labor Companion, trained by Jenny West (The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Natural Childbirth). She is a Consulting Hypnotist certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists and is currently in extended study with the New York Milton H. Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis (NYSEPH). Originally she did graduate work in prenatal, infant, and toddler developmental psychology and education and worked in educational settings primarily for the support of infants and young children in high risk families. For a number of years, she also worked as a technical writer in information technology. Leslie volunteers in the area of mental health advocacy, sings with a lunch time chorus in midtown Manhattan, and is an avocational quilt maker. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and daughter.
Tova Schoenfeld is a Certified HypnoBirthing Professional Labor Companion, having trained with Jenny West, and has also trained as a DONA labor companion with Natashia Fuksman. Tova has raised her own seven children and is enjoying her growing brood of grandchildren. She and her marvelously accommodating husband, Moshe, have been NY State Certified Foster Parents since 2006, and have had the opportunity to open their home to over a dozen children for long- as well as short-term care. Tova believes so strongly in the sanctity of the entire spectrum of life, that she has volunteered for the Jewish Burial Society for many years, extending kindness to those who can no longer express their thanks. Tova is fluent in both English and Hebrew, having moved to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn from Israel at the age of 13.
Esther Handler has been teaching HypnoBirthing Classes since 2006. As a mother of four young children, Esther is passionate about natural childbirth and is a strong advocate for improved maternity services within her community.
When her children grow older, Esther plans to pursue certification as a Labor Companion. For now, she gladly welcomes her clients’ own labor companions– whether professional doulas, family members or friends– to join her classes.
Esther serves the Brooklyn Hasidic communities of Crown Heights and Williamsburg, and her classes are offered in either an English or Yiddish format. In addition to her HypnoBirthing affiliation, Esther holds certification with both Lamaze International and the HypnoFertility Foundation.
